Action research

  • Meaning of Action Research :-
  •  Action Research is a process where in participants examine their own educational practice systematically & carefully using techniques of research.
  • Applied research is a research that any of us can do his/ her own practice to improve it can be conducted wit the assistance or guidance of professionals researcher in order to improve strategies and practices and knowledge of the environment within which they practice.
  • Types of Action research:-
  1. Collaborative Action Research–It  may include as few or two teachers or a group of several teacher and other interested in addressing in classroom of department issue. 
  2. Schoolwide Research– Focuses on issues common to all.
  3. Distinctive Research-For more complex and utilizes more resources but the reward can be great. Issue can be organisational community based, performance based are processes for decision making.
  • Characteristics of action research:-
  1.  It is the process of studying practical problems of education.
  2. It is a scientific procedure for finding out a practical  solutionof current problem.
  3. It is a personal research or clinical research work.
  4. The focus is to improve and modify the current practices. 
  5. The individual and group problems are studied by action  does research.
  6. It situation in the form of knowledge.
  7. Grounded in real life experience.
  8.  Developed in partnership.
  9. Addresses significant needs.
  10. Develops new ways of seeing/interpreting the world (i.e. theory)
  11. Works with (rather than simply studying) people.
  12. Uses methods that are appropriate to the audience and participants at hand.
  13.  Develops needed structures to allow for follow up or institutionalization of new practices so that the work may have a lasting, positive impact.
  14. An investigator must be directly associated with the problem to be studied.
  15. The project should be so planned that it should not intervene  the  function of school work.
  16. The project should be concerned directly with qualitative improvement and level of performance of the students.
  • Benefits:-
  1. It develops scientific attitude in the teachers.
  2. By studying the interests needs & abilities of the pupils teachers can adopt a teaching method by which the teaching may become interesting and an all round development of the pupils may take place. 
  3. It enables the schools to organize proper programmes for the development of the pupils.
  4. It can raise the achievement level of the pupils.
  5. Curriculum can be developed with its help.
  6. It can solve the problem of indiscipline.
  7. I can remove the discrepancies among pupils & teachers which occur due to social causes.
  8. It can solve the problems of delinquency and backwardness.
  9. It can preserve the democratic values by eliminating  traditional  and mechanical environment
  10. By its help decisions can be taken regarding the day to day problems which come before the principles, supervisors, administrators and managers. They can remove them by evaluating their own working systems or working methods.
  • Limitations:-
  1. Lack of generalizability.
  2. The cyclic nature of action research to achieve its twin outcomes of action (i.e. change) and research (e.g. understanding) is time consuming and complex to conduct. 
  3. Findings of action research are typically only relevant to the specific classroom being, investigated its students and its own unique characteristics.
  4. It may yield different results in other classrooms, contexts or languages
  • Definition of problem: Students of class 11th do not show interest in accountancy period.
  • Behaviour done in class during period of accountancy.
  1. Talking with each other. 
  2. Doing another work.
  3. Students arguing with the teacher.
  4. Not attend the class.
  5. Doing time pass. Eg. Going bathroom, drinking water etc.
  • Problable causes
  1. Way of teaching of teacher in the class.
  2. Students have already learnt the sums in the tuitions.
  3. Students feel overburden.
  4. Sitting arrangement is not proper.
  5. Timing of the class/period.
  6. Basic concepts are not clear.
  7. Finding dif ficulty in calculations.
  8. Students don't know the importance of the subject.
  9. Students are irregular.
  10. Study material are not handy.
  11. Class management and handling the students,creates a problem to manage efficiently.
  12. Teacher is irregular.
  • In this action research the researcher has taken into consideration the predictive Form of hypothesis
  • In the causes are under control of the teacher then the following are some of the hypothesis related to the causes:
1st cause:- Way of teaching of teacher in the class.
Hypothesis:- If teacher will change the teaching method according to chapter it help in make class interesting.
2nd cause:- Students have already learnt the sums in the tuitions.
Hypothesis:- If the students already know about the topic teacher can ask them in attracting manner so that they learn more about the topic.
3rd cause:- Students feel over-burden.
Hypothesis:- Teacher should give task according to their time and capabilities.
4th cause:- Sitting arrangement is not proper.
Hypothesis:-  Teacher should arrange the students in such a manner that they don't talk too much.
5th cause:- Timing if the class / period of accountancy.
Hypothesis:- The timing of the class should be 1st or 2nd when students concentration is good.
6th cause:- Finding difficulty in calculations.
Hypothesis:- If teacher use teaching aids for teaching make calculations easy.
7th causes:- Students are not able to understand .
Hypothesis:- If students get extra class then they will be able to understand properly.
8th cause:- Inefficient class management.
Hypothesis:- If teacher improve discipline in class it make students listen the teacher.
